Market research commissioned by Broadreach indicates that there is strong demand for Wi‑Fi services among rail passengers. We conducted over 1800 on-train interviews across the UK with business travellers/commuters using nominated IT products for business. The key findings are as follows:
Passenger interest
More than 3 out of 4 business travellers/commuters are interested in having Wi-Fi Internet access on board trains. 41% of respondents say they are very interested and a further 36% say they are quite interested:

Productivity gains
Half of the respondents already work on a laptop computer or PDA while travelling by train. 84% of these people believe that on-board Wi-Fi would make this time more productive:

Transport preferences
70% of respondents believe that on-board Wi-Fi would make them more likely to choose the train over other forms of travel:

Experience from on-board Wi-Fi deployments in North America shows that “connected commuting” can also encourage passengers to travel outside peak hours.
Station access
Half of the respondents are interested in having Wi-Fi access while waiting for trains:

The interest level is lower than for on-board services since passengers aim to minimise the amount of time they spend at stations, but business travellers/commuters who have experienced delays see value in the service.
